March 28, 2012

Okay, today I went fishing, in light rain and had tons of hits. I came out with only two small bass and a bluegill. Very disappointing with the weather being perfect for bass, the barometric pressure was out of whack triggering some hits. I was very pleased with that day of fishing though.
Right after I fished I was lucky enough to spend almost 100 bucks worth of fishing tackle at Dick's Sporting Goods. I got Zoom worms and grubs, Gulp minnows and crap ton more of stuff. Seeing that I'm very new to fishing freshwater, I found what could be my next rod. A $49.99 bait caster, I was drooling as I stared at it. I just wanted to update, My next post will be a bass fishing tip, so keep coming back as i try to post daily.

I'm Sorry!

I know, I know, I'm sorry I haven't been posting in the past week, but... I did go fishing yesterday. I caught two largemouth bass jigging a 4 inch, black, Gary Yamamoto, worm. They were both under two pounds. They didn't have a spawning belly. Still, they are fish and I was happy.
Just wanted to update.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

In Florida, went into a marina to fish for huge Jacks. Not sure what type, but a guy said he saw one bigger then himself (he was 6' tall). I was using a hook with a Gulp scented worm about 5 inches long. Two hits no fish. I'm enjoying it though, I can't wait to go out again!

Tip of the Week!

This is a new series of fishing tips for the type of fishing of your choosing! Leave a comment to recommend a fishing tip.

This weeks fishing tip is on Spring fishing for largemouth bass. This can be very effective fishing with the female filled with her eggs can add a pound or so to her weight. When fishing in the middle of Spring try to find shallow warm water, they need warm water to spawn their eggs. When fishing in the shallows, make sure you retrieve your bait as slow as possible. Also, if you know there are big fish in the area keep throwing your bait back, this will make the fish angry and possibly provoke a strike. I find that the best bait to throw is any worm, Carolina rigged. Cast out, reel once, count to three, reel again. Repeat until your bait is on land, guaranteed to catch you a fish in the spring and maybe summer. The worm is the all around best bait to use in any situation, deep water or shallow, cold water or warm, it will make the fish go crazy.

I hope this weekly tip helped you fisherman out there who just like another way of fishing the local pond.

Hello Fisherman,
I have been bored lately, nothing to do. Today I'm writing a post about what my tackle is and everything. So, since I started last year, I have a crappy Shakespeare spinning rod combo that I put some new Berkley 14lb test on for this season. I also have a descent spinning rod that I may put some new line on. In my tackle box I have Yamamoto Black Worms, worm hooks, one crank bait, three frogs, a pack of humpin' toads (Bass Pro Shops), some frog hooks, a few minnow lures, pliers, sunscreen, my horrible Rapala weigher and I will be acquiring some curly tail grubs from Bass Pro Shops. I used up three packs of grubs last year catching pretty much everything the pond has, bluegill, crappie and largemouth bass. I hope this was useful for all you fisherman out there. Comment about my blog, I need some feed back on how I'm doing.

March 7, 5:45 Pond Bass

FIRST FISH OF SEASON!
Caught a 1.6lbs female Largemouth. I knew it was female because it had a chunky stomach that accounted for most of the weight of the fish. Caught it on a Gary Yamamoto 4 inch black worm with a bullet sinker. I caught it in a large pond at the mouth of a 3 yard wide creek a great spot for fish. So I just wanted to let you guys know I've caught my first fish this season.

Surf Fishing

I fishing around the Indian River Inlet in Delaware. I've fished in the inlet, but never have I had any luck.
My usual setup for the surf is to use my short 5'8 rod (it was 6'5 but tip broke), with a small bottom fish rig with some artificial bait. I use my 9' rod and tie up a bluefish rig usually I use frozen squid, but sometimes I break out the cast net and hope for a 4-5 inch bait fish cruising in the waves. Last summer when I fished this way I caught about 9 or 10 baby Skate and I caught a huge Spot with my little rod, I used it as bait. Anyway I think I found a spawn bed for these things. My buddy, I was fishing with caught two for two (bluefish rig with two hooks). We were excited and astonished at how many Skates we caught.

Bass Fishing

I will say up front that I am an amateur for bass fishing. I started a year ago, with a twenty dollar Shakespeare spinning rod with i think it was 8lbs test. Now I've upgrade to about a sixty dollar spinning combo. I upgraded my line to 14lbs test Berkley on my Shakespeare because I had to cut the line due to the amount of snagging I did. 'Bout a week ago went out to Dick's and bought three frog lures, a Scum Frog, a Matzuo America Kroaker Frog and the most expensive being the Booyah Pad Crasher. I am new to frogs and I thought I'd give it a shot seeing the big bass being caught with it on YouTube.
My go to lure/bait would have to be a Gary Yamamoto 4in Black Yamasenko. I use an offset hook with a bullet sinker. The pond I fish has a channel at most 5'6 ft across and it is deep, possibly 6 ft deep. Big lunker's hide there because there is a big tree hanging over the channel that creates shade and bass LOVE shade. They have no eyelids so the shade protects there eyes from the sun. I go to that channel every time I fish there and catch an average of a 2-3lbs bass every cast. I just let the worm sit at the bottom and twitch it every 3 seconds. If I don't have a bass in less than a minute, there is something wrong. The largest fish I have caught in this pond is an 7lbs+
I will get more into the bass fishing as I progress into the summer.

Fishing

Okay, this blog is directed at people who would like to read about a few fishing tales or maybe even pick up a few fishing tactics to put in there fishing armory. I would just like to warn you that I fish largemouth bass in Maryland and I fish the surf in Delaware (so if you fish on the west coast just find another blog).  I will be going to fish in Florida soon, for tarpon or whatever's running down there, so I will write about that.
I will be writing a ton in the next few weeks because I will be fishing the ponds for bass with a ton of different lures, soft plastics etc. etc.
Keep fishing!
